invitation/opportunity to organize a symposium at the ASA Joint Statistical Meetings (1997)
To all members of the ESA Statistical Ecology Section:
"Each year, the American Statistical Association, the Institute of
Mathematical Statistics, the International Biometric Society (Eastern
and Western North America regions), and the Statistical Society of
Canada host the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). The 1997 JSM will be
held in Anaheim, California, on August 10-14, 1997. Six Invited
Session slots are reserved for contributions from organizations outside
of the co-sponsoring statistical societies. The Section on Statistical
Ecology of the Ecological Society of America is such an outside
organization"
We are therefore "invited to submit a competitive proposal on behalf of
the section for consideration as an Invited Session for the 1997 JSM."
To be considered, the proposal must be received by October 30, 1996.
Following receipt of proposals, the 1997 JSM Program committee will
evaluate them, and select up to six outside organization sponsored
sessions for the meetings.
If any member of the section is interested in organizing such a
symposium session, please contact me for format and submission
details. In brief, they are:
1. An exciting and important topic, preferably related to the meeting
theme: "Shaping statistics for success in the 21st Century"
2. Identification of an organizer
3. Format:
Time: 110 minutes, with 5 minutes for introduction, and 15
minutes for floor discussion.
Style: Single paper followed by a series of discussants; or
series of papers followed by discussant(s); or panel discussion; or
tutorial; or workshop; or demonstration; or mock trial; or debate
Number of participants: A series of papers followed by
discussants is limited to 4 participants plus the session chair. All
other styles may include up to five participants plus session chair.
4. Identify participants and get commitments. As with ESA meetings,
there are limits on the number of presentations one individual can make
at the JSM.
5. Other minor submission details available on request.
Hope that someone is interested!
