Postdoc in Plant Population Ecology
Postdoctoral position in plant population ecology.
We are studying plant demographic responses to disturbance --
specifically, the population dynamics of pitch pine in response to
fire. The postdoc will be based at the Department of Ecology and
Evolution, SUNY Stony Brook, on Long Island, New York. The work
will involve field demographic and experimental studies in the
Long Island Pine Barrens, as well as tree ring analysis and
demographic modelling. A strong interest in field studies is
essential; since these studies are motivated by theory, an
interest in theoretical population ecology would also be very
valuable. It will be possible for the postdoc to independently
develop research related to our project. The environment in the
Department ofEcology and Evolution is highly interactive,
intellectually stimulating, and very friendly. The postdoc will
also have the opportunity to spend some time working with Dr. Fox
at San Diego State University on the modelling component of the
research.
The position is available starting November 1, 1998, and is
available for 2 years for a salary of $28,000.
Applications should include: a CV, 2 letters of reference (which
should be sent separately), and a letter explaining your interests
and professional goals and how they relate to this research.
Applications should be sent to: Dr. Jessica Gurevitch, Dept. of
Ecology and Evolution, SUNY Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY
11794-5245. All application materials should be received by
September 1, 1998.
For further information, see the project description at
http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/Faculty/Gordon.Fox/pines.html. More
information about the Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony
Brook see http://life.bio.sunysb.edu./ee/ . We will also be happy
to respond to email queries, and both of us will be attending both
the Society for the Study of Evolution/Society of American
Naturalists meeting and the Ecological Society of America meeting
this summer.
The State University of New York is an equal opportunity employer.
