Bob - I am surprised that they perceive the outline as too "narrow."  My
understanding was that the larger inter-LTER site comparisons was the
subject of another effort later on.  Oh well....  In any event, in our
discussions, we have talked about fitting some of our chapter into the
framework of the "intermediate disturbance" hypothesis.  It also allows for
some large-scale comparisons of the peninsular effect in island
biogeography.  Thirdly, one hot area right now in conservation biology is
testing for spatial correspondence in high-diversity areas, or hotspots. WE
plan to do that also.
