research) 

The plan here was to build on our Central Theme paragraph from our
proposal.  The three surfaces and structure and function of VCR
Ecosystems.

CHAPTDER I-4 (PART D)

D. Lagoon and lagoonal marshes; Hayden, Oertel, Zieman, Schultz

i.: Regional perspective.  -- My contribution to this chapter (I th ink)
was based on my work of some years back on the barrier islands, lagoons
and marshes of the US Atlantic Coast.  Study resolution was 10 km.
along-the-coast units.  I can provide the regional perspective and deal
with the similarities and differences between VCR lagoons and marshes
and those elsewhere along the coast.

ii. I know George can put the VCR lagoons and marshes into a Holocene
perspective.  I would hope that the history of the extent of dominance
of open water vs marshes can be included in George's effort.

iii. Zieman has long been interested in the morphology of the platforms
of sediments on which the marshes are established and he has ideas about
the regional aspects of this morphology and the implications for marsh
ecosystems.  

iv.  In addition, John Porter has worked with me on a GIS layer of
marshes and wetlands based TM images -- perhaps this also could go in
this chapter.
