outline of the megasite

Hi, Bob:

Things are getting better with me. I thought I could not handle this chapter
as I discussed
the issue with you earlier. Since I have not heard from other people who may
want to take
it over, and I am going to have a person here to help me do the computer work,
I would
like tto continue to work on the megasite chapter writing. I feel I am
responsible for this task.

I cc this message to Bruce and John. I don't have the email addesses of Erwin
and Moncrief.
John, could you forward this message to them?

I got some disk space on my computer here. So I can ftp the TM data to my
computer.
John, could you tell me where to get them?

Here is the outline (based on the first meeting of the four authors last
September.

Title: Magesite land cover: current spatial features and the latest dynamic
trends

1. Introduction
Landscapes on the Virginia Coast Reserve are charaterized by distinct
zonation
resuting from both natural disturbance, ecological succession, and human
modifications. The
spatial pattern and temporal changes of land covers determine the complicated
ecological
processes.

2. Spatial distributions
There are 6 land cover types: forest (including natural forests, shrub
thickets and
plantations), agricultural land, grassland (mainly dense grassland), dune
(sparse grassland),
marsh (including high marsh), and tidal flat.

3. Temporal changes
Data from later 90s, and early 80s TM satellite images, 1974 USGS topo
maps
will be used to examine the land cover changes over time.

4. Implications of the dynamic landscape
Indirect changes in animal habitats, landscape structure, and
ecological processes.

5. Historical prospective
	Long-term versus short-term changes.
