Synthesis Book Outline Entries
To authors of the synthesis volume chapters:
It's me again. This is a reminder that revised chapter outlines need to
be put on the web. I'd like to be able to organize everything by
mid-June. Therefore, can you have your chapter outline put on the web
by the first week in June.
I do have 3 revised outlines in various states: (1) I.0 (or 4) was
patched together by Brinson et al. at the meeting, (2) II.2 Response to
disturbance is on the web at
(www.vcrlter.virginia.edu/mailarch/synthesis_mh/msg00026.html) (Young
et al. ). This is in the mail archives for the synthesis volume. and
(3) the nutrient chapter from Anderson et al. put together at the end of
the meeting in March. I also have a chapter on social history into the
written status.
To refresh your memory on the meeting in March and our needs, I refer
you to my open letter from mid-March that can be found in the mail
archives under Bob Christian, No subject
(www.vcrlter.virginia.edu/mailarch/synthesis_mh/msg00025.html). I
recommend that you look that over.
We would like to get the outlines into the web directly. This can be
done via a form on the web
(www.vcrlter.virginia.edu/pi/synthesis/synthesis_form.html). The
outline will then be put into a special area
(wwwvcrlter.virginia.edu/pi/synthesis/synth_table_of_contents.html).
There are a few things related to this.
1) Use html if possible, but we can adapt if you don't. The commands
<ol> and <li> worked for me to indent and list.
2) The form asks for a short abstract/summary before the outline. A few
sentences here would help alot.
3) Use Courier 12 as a font if possible.
4) You all wrote something for the first pass. The important thing is
to update what you have in the context of what we discussed in March.
What we're trying to do is put things in better order and have the
outlines in a more similar format. You are welcome to use the Young et
al., disturbance chapter, outline as a guide. BUt also look over the
outline from the March meeting again.
I'll keep you posted.
One last thing, I have not updated the "synthesis" listing and may have
missed some of the authors. Please, pass this on to others in your
chapter with my apologies.
Thanks in advance for your efforts,
Bob Christian
