The VCR's REU program is designed to i) expose highly qualified students to supervised, original research, ii) encourage exposure to the broad range of scientific inquiry at the VCR site, and iii) encourage significant peer group interaction among the REU class. Generally, the REU's spend 10 weeks on site during the summer working on an original research project under the direction of a participating faculty member.
The application process involves filling out this application and speaking with the LTER faculty that have similar research interests about possible collaboration. Selection is based on i) the students ablility and academic record, ii) recommendations from LTER faculty, and iii) relevance of the student's research interests to the VCR project. In the past, the VCR LTER has sponsored 4-6 summer REUs.
Application does not guarantee program participation. This program is supported by grant funds from NSF. The exact date the support proposal is due is unknown at this time. Consequently it is to your advantage to speak with LTER faculty and submit this application as quickly as possible.
