PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The marsh rice rat has relatively short and smooth grayish brown fur. The underside is paler than the above, and the feet and face tend to be whitish in color. It has a long scaly tale in comparison with the rest of the body. The marsh rice rat is about 7-12 inches long, with the tail making up 3.5-5.5 inches of that total. An adult rat weighs in the range of 1.5-5 ounces, but most average about 2 ounces.
