Broadwater WWW Camera

The Broadwater WWW Camera is operated by the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project with support from National Science Foundation grant DEB-0080381.

Development of the network infrastracture was jointly supported by the NSF Biological Science by Wireless Project and the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project. A specific, illustrated chronology of the project is available.

Hardware infrastructure consists of a Wi-LAN 22-09 "Hopper" Internet radio link between Broadwater Tower and the VCR/LTER lab in Oyster, VA, a Panasonic WV-CS854A Unitized Dome Camera, and an Axis 2401 Camera Server. This is powered by a 300 watt 12-v solar array with a MorningStar ProStar 30 charge control and 200 amp-hours of deep cycle batteries.

Software for the web page is custom written by the VCR/LTER, but draws heavily on scripts provided by Axis Communications, Inc..

Special thanks go to Dave Hughes and Tom Williams of the NSF Wireless Project, Phillip Smith of the VCR/LTER and The Nature Conservancy for providing access to the Broadwater Tower.
