Hog Island 1973

Hog Island in 1973. Most of what you can see is upland. Sand is in white. Woody plants in red and sandy grasslands in between. The marshes on the backside of the island are flooded with the tide and there is little difference in this image between the marsh and the lagoon. The upland portion of this island is 90% new landscape since 1872. The south end of the island eroded extensively this century while the north end built out seaward.
