The Woody Shrub, Myrica, on the north end of Hog Island have expanded greatly since 1949. Most of the expansion is on areas where the islands are building seaward. The ecosystems of these islands are dependent on the movement of sands. In the illustratiion above woody shrubs are indicated by the red pattern.
